The National Secretary is the Corporate Secretary of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and shall be responsible for the execution of duties typically associated with a corporate secretary. The National Secretary shall have charge of all Board records, the Sorority’s official documents, and the seal of the Sorority.
The National Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of such minutes and records and for reporting any breaches thereof to the Chair of the Board and the General Counsel-Chief Compliance Officer.
The National Secretary shall authenticate the actions of the Board before and with third parties, and deliver, as appropriate attestations of such actions of the Board as may be necessary to carry on the business of the Sorority or to give effect to the actions of the Board and Grand Chapter.
The National Secretary shall oversee and ensure the implementation, maintenance, accuracy and updating of the Sorority’s policy management system.
The National Secretary shall perform related duties assigned by the Chair of the Board and oversee the administrative functions as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws.
This role is key in upholding organizational
governance and ensuring compliance with the constitution, bylaws, charter, and other
governing documents. In addition to providing administrative and board support, and overseeing records management, this role requires an in-depth understanding of the sorority’s governance framework. My experience serving on the Constitution & Bylaws Committee, as National Treasurer, as National Internal Audit Chair, and as a member of the National Executive Committee, have equipped me with a solid
foundation in governance, compliance, and
strategic oversight. These transferable skills and insights have prepared me well to contribute effectively as National Secretary.
As a senior leader, I have built and maintained strong relationships while fostering a risk-conscious, compliance-driven culture and implemented proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification, and escalation processes to make informed risk decisions aligned with the organization’s risk appetite and compliance requirements.
I am experienced in editing and distributing large volumes of minutes, including reviewing and editing the transcript from prior national conventions, producing clear, authoritative summaries and validating the recorded actions of Grand Chapter.
Policies and policy management have been core to my professional experience as a Certified Public Accountant, a rules/policy driven profession. As such I have showcased extensive knowledge and proficiency in policy development and adherence. As National Internal Audit
Committee Chair, I provided strategic oversight of policy management, ensuring alignment with the Constitution and Bylaws, the Fiscal Officers Manual and other governing documents, reinforcing a culture of accountability and integrity. As National Treasurer, diligent compliance to policy led to no observed audit findings - sustained during my entire tenure, along with achieved record chapter reporting and compliance.
In executing the administrative functions or “other duties as assigned” to the role of National Secretary, I possess strong technical and technological expertise. I excel at transforming complex data into clear, actionable reports, and am skilled in developing business models, dashboards, and presentations. Additionally, I helped create database tools to streamline data entry. For example, as National Treasurer, I spearheaded the development of the online annual financial reporting tool used to compile the IRS Group return, leading to greater efficiency, accuracy and chapter participation.
